Check out the Tobacco Road Sports Cafe Menu

First off, I'd like to apologize for not posting updates more often. We have all been pretty busy, although that is still no excuse--nothing is more annoying than yet another blog that never seems to be updated. We promise to be better moving forward.

The good news is that the hard work is paying off and we are very close to opening. Our website is receiving the final touches and will include photos of the interior and a few shots of menu items. Speaking of our menu, we are proud to provide a preview here. Click here to download a printable version.

This menu was created by our executive chef, Juan Esparza and features some North Carolina favorites including Sweet Potato Fries, a BBQ sandwich and Cheddar Grits--as well as some fresh alternatives including numerous vegetarian items such as Cabbage Rolls, Jumbo Black Eyed Pea Cakes and our Hurricane Tomato Sandwich. Many of our menu items are made with North Carolina products, seafood and produce. Let us know what you think of the menu. Of course, we hope that you'll come in and try it for yourself.

I love a lot of the menu options! There are vegetarian options, excellent =) Oh yeah, and the BBQ and other stuff that my meat-eater will be happy with too. You know we will actually be eating there ;)

Hi I recently visited your restaurant. I had gotten wind that it was a smoke free establishment. That is absolutely fantastic that you all have taken that risk. I think I can honestly say I have watched a game at every sports restaurant in Raleigh and even some in Garner. A few have non-smoking sections like Blinco’s, The Ale House, Skybox Grill but I still leave with that smoke stench. My friends and I watch NCSU football and basketball games as well as Carolina Hurricane games. We spend a lot of money eating out and definitely know what we like to eat when we go out to see the games. Your menu caught me off guard. When our table commented on the menu our waiter informed us that Tobacco Road was a Sports Cafe not a sports bar. From what the waiter said what differentiates the two is upscale food while watching your favorite sports versus the normal sports bar fare. I'm all about good food but I'm also about a lot of variety. What makes or brakes whether or not we return to a sports restaurant is the food variety, the size of the TV’s and of course whether we can withstand the cigarette smoke.
I observed the clientele that came into your restaurant and the items people were ordering such as chips and salsa, wings, nachos, cheese steaks, burgers, a few salads, a steak and then those at the bar just having drinks. A lot of the clientele appeared to be men in their early thirties to mid forties with a few gal s twenty-five to fifty. Most were dressed in jeans and t-shirts and a few button downs. The clientele does not appear to be the upscale type.
My friends have a few suggestions because we want to see a non smoking establishment survive. Cheesy Crab Dip with horseradish, Mozzarella Sticks, French Onion Soup, Chili with Fritos, cheese and sour cream, Broccoli, Salmon, Chicken Fingers, Grilled and Fried chicken sandwiches, Deli-type sandwiches, pizza, a variety of cheese cakes, ice cream and other desserts. A limited menu without daily specials and some junk bar food will not bring people in to watch games and eat. Your restaurant may bring people in to eat and or drink but to repeatedly visit your restaurant to eat and watch games. The non-smoking aspect will not be the thing that keeps us coming back. So for now Saturdays NCSU game will be watched somewhere probably at Blinco’s for some good comfort food and beer. We really hope the menu gets better by the way all eight people in my group grew up in North Carolina and none of us like barbecue or blackeyed peas. Go figure.
